Important things to know:
- The court cannot give legal advice on your case. The staff can answer questions about court process.
- People with citations may walk-in to the Courthouse to make payments or submit paperwork.
- The judge will not speak to you before your court hearing, you must appear in court to talk to the judge.
- The court holds case hearings on Wednesdays.
- Corrales Municipal is a court of limited jurisdiction which only hears criminal cases cited in the Village of Corrales under the municipal laws.
You have the right to:
- Be presumed innocent at trial until the village proves its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
- Remain silent, anything you say may be used against you in your case.
- A trial if you have plead not guilty.
- Compel the attendance of the village's witnesses, hear them testify about your case and ask them questions.
- Testify on your own behalf and have witnesses testify.
- The assistance of an attorney if your case includes possible jail. If you cannot afford an attorney, then one will be appointed to you if you apply and qualify.
- An appeal if you are found guilty by the court after a trial.
